Preparing a Sample for Your Veterinarian
If your veterinarian asks you to bring a urine sample from your cat, contact the clinic before collecting it. Ask which collection method and container they require, how much they need, and when the sample should arrive.
Questions to ask before you start
- Does the clinic want a sample collected at home, or an appointment for collection?
- Will they supply a container or special litter?
- How should the container be labelled?
- What are the handling and delivery instructions for the requested test?
Different tests can require different collection methods. Follow the instructions from the team carrying out the test. Do not attempt an invasive collection procedure at home.
Write down the collection time and any observations that your veterinary team has asked you to record. If home collection is not practical, call the clinic for another option.
