Household Hazards and Pets

Some products that belong in a home or garden can be dangerous for animals. Store medicines, cleaners and pest-control products where pets cannot reach them, and keep the original packaging available.

Find the right help

If you think your pet has been exposed to a potentially poisonous substance, contact your veterinarian or ASPCA Poison Control. Their specialists can assess the particular product and exposure. A consultation fee may apply.

Do not rely on a product name alone or try a home remedy instead of getting professional guidance. The ingredients, amount and circumstances matter. Keep the container available when speaking to the veterinary team.

The ASPCA’s resources include information about household products, foods and plants. Our blog also covers the everyday environments that pets and people share.
